The bottom blowdown valve is used for the controlled discharge of the sludge, sediment and settled solids that accumulate at the base of a steam boiler. Correct bottom blowdown improves heat transfer, reduces the risk of corrosion and extends boiler life.
Operating Principle
Bottom blowdown works on the principle of short-duration, high-velocity discharge. The valve opens and closes for a few seconds at defined intervals, directing the deposits through the line to the blowdown tank/cooler. In automatic systems, triggering can be performed by a timer relay or by boiler water analysis.
